Before/After Care for Children's House
and Elementary Programs
In response to parent needs for extended care, Hilltop is revamping the after and before-care programs. This offers an opportunity to review Hilltop’s extended-care guidelines and policies. As schools grow in size, facilities, and program offerings, set numbers and policies become critical to providing the staffing and supervision necessary for the safety and positive experiences of the children. Though such policies have been set in the past, they have not always been implemented effectively. We will be consistently implementing the policy outlined below. This will also ensure that teachers are able to have the preparation and planning time that their Montessori classrooms require, and help Hilltop meet parents’ expectations regarding quality before and after care.
What is Before & After Care?
Before Care begins at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 8:15 a.m. The After Care Program begins at 3:00 for Children's House students and 3:15 for Elementary for those families looking to extend the day beyond 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 or 5:00 p.m.
Who can use Before & After Care?
Any Children’s House or Elementary student currently enrolled at Hilltop Montessori School is eligible for admission to Before & After School Care. There is a 30-day trial period to determine the appropriateness of the program for any child. Admission to the Before & After School programs will be allocated on a first received, first served basis.
When do I set my Before & After Care schedule?
Families who plan to use Before or After Care consistently should enroll using a Before & After Care Contract. For scheduling and staffing purposes, we ask that families set a weekly schedule and remain consistent with each of the two enrollment periods for the school year: Sept- Dec, and Jan- June. Schedule changes may be requested in September and December. There will be no refunds or credits for scheduled hours not used.
Students who are in Before & After Care occasionally will be signed in as add-ons. Advance notice of such use will be helpful for planning and staffing.
How do I get billed for Before & After Care?
Billing for families using a Before & After Care contract will be done monthly (rather than bi-annually as was stated in the blue contract). Families who use Before & After Care occasionally will be billed as an add-on included in their monthly statement. Before Care Details: Class start time is 8:30 a.m. for all Hilltop’s Montessori Programs. Elementary classroom doors open at 8:15 a.m. Elementary or CH children who arrive before 8:15 a.m. need to sign-in that morning and be on a Before Care contract, or be charged $7.50 (per early arrival day) for the supervised time. CH and Elementary students who arrive between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. do not need to be signed into Before Care and will not be charged for that time, as teachers will be prepared to greet and supervise them. MS students will not be charged for Before Care (as they do not require the same staff/student ratio), but they do need to make prior arrangements with a teacher and be making productive use of the before school time.
After Care Details: Students who are on the property after the end of dismissal time will be signed into After Care and the student’s account will be billed $7.50 for any portion of the first hour. The pick up schedule allows for a 15 min. pick-up period.
- CH is dismissed at 2:45 p.m. and After Care begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.
- Elementary is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. and After Care begins promptly at 3:15 p.m.
- MS is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. and will not be charged for After Care (as they do not require the same staff/student ratio), but they do need make prior arrangements with a teacher and make productive use of after school time if they remain on campus after 3:00 p.m.
After School Programs and After Care: Children signed up for one of the enrichment After School Programs that take place on-site will go to their program at 3:00 p.m. and will need to be picked-up promptly at the end of the program. If a child is on-site more than 15 minutes after the end time for the program, the instructor will sign the child into After Care and the child will need to be picked up from After Care and billed $7.50 for the time, if not already on an After Care contract. Final pick-up time for all children on campus is 5:00 p.m. To be respectful of staff’s evening, we will strictly enforce the existing policy of $1 per minute for children picked up after 5:00 p.m.
